Why Make a Change?
Change is scary. Whether you are starting a new job, moving to a new city, or making a lifestyle change, it can all be overwhelming. There is the old adage that humans are creatures of habit. Habituation can be comfortable, and boy do we love being comfortable. However, your habits can also set you back. Being stuck in the same rut can be nice at times. There are minimal expectations when you do the same things over and over again without leaving your “comfort zone.”
I have always been afraid of change. Actually, I have been terrified of it. Starting this business and creating this blog took me about 6 months because I was petrified of putting my energy into something new. There was such an intense risk of disappointment and thoughts swirling about this attempt failing. I knew that in my typical day-to-day routine, there was no way I could be disappointed. I was really good at being able to check my boxes while completing easy tasks. By keeping my expectations low and my goals within arms reach, there was no way my aspirations could hurt me. However, life began to feel stale and a new fear began to emerge. There was a new fear that I could end up with a bucket list of things I never tried. To me, that sounds a lot more miserable than trying something I am passionate about and failing at it.
So this “comfort zone” we always talk about… I strongly believe that it needs to be challenged. “What does that look like?” you may ask. The answer is that it will be different for each individual. For some, it may be finding a way to try a new hobby. For others, it could be escaping a toxic lifestyle that is threatening their well-being. I am not here to tell you what to change about yourself by any means. But, if making a change means changing something about your body’s abilities to function and its aesthetic then that’s where fitness can help. Many people have no idea where to begin in the fitness realm. This is the main reason why I started this company. I want to help guide people on different ways to make changes in their lives. Those changes have to come from you though. I will get YOU to the place where YOU want to be in YOUR life. Sorry for the excessive capitalization, but I want to get across that MY goal is not to make you look a certain way that I think is right.
This blog is meant to be motivational. I do not want to come off as a “you always need to be getting better or else you are lazy” type of person. There are definitely times when comfort is the number one priority and this can all be thrown out the door. We all go through times when our mental state is nothing to brag about. Rest and relaxation in a judgment-free, safe environment is another part of the journey. Being able to switch from R&R to self-progression is a skill that everyone should strive for.
It is healthy to make positive changes in your life and they should be welcomed. Being scared is part of the process. Breaking through the fear is really where you will find a new sense of confidence and accomplishment.
